πŸš€ Aims of Robyn's Rocket

To make gigs accessible to more people, not just disabled people, but anyone who might feel unwelcome or experience barriers to gigs for example due to gender or Caring responsibilities .

It's built on the idea of being Inclusive Conscious.

❓Inclusive Conscious.

πŸ”1 Look who's not in a space

2 πŸ‘‹ Invite them in

4 🎬Do the feedback ( where you can)

πŸ“– History.

Robyn's Rocket was started by disabled artist Robyn Rocket , who is supported by South London charity Heart N Soul, who believe in the Power and Talents of people with Learning Disabilities and Autistic people.

Robyn plays Space Trumpet ( trumpet through fx) And loves playing with different people at one point she was in 7 bands.

Heart N Soul suggested bringing together her work as a musician and visual artist in a residency. This became Robyn's Rocket.

πŸ›’First Rocket

The first Rockets were in a basement of a record shop in deptford in 2017.

πŸ’‘Ideas

Robyn was aware of the

privilege of having support to be able to put on gigs, and inspired by the work of Richard Phoenix ( see D.I.Y as a privilege published on Rough trade books ) . Robyn wanted to invite other artists from the Heart N Soul and wider Learning Disability / Autism arts community, to play at her gigs. She was also aware that she would often not see her local Heart N Soul friends at gigs in Deptford, and wouldn't see her local friends without Learning Disabilities/  Non Autistic friends at Heart N Soul and other organisations events, she wanted to create a space that would feel welcoming and comfortable for as many people as possible, both artists and audience.

Robyn programmes artists with and without Learning Disabilities and Autistic and Non Autistic artists, but her focus is always on quality and audience journey.

πŸͺNext stop Cafe OTO

The gigs were a success! Robyn was supported to apply for funding .

In 2019 with funding from PRSF ( Performing Rights Society Foundation) and HMUK (Help Musicians UK) Robyn's Rocket moved to East London Experimental music  venue Cafe OTO.

πŸŽ₯Streaming and wider access

Since 2021 gigs were streamed on youtube. Robyn wanted the streams to feel as close to a TV show as possible.

She made videos for in-between the live acts, and they use multiple cameras.

πŸ›ΈNow

Since 2020 Robyn's Rocket has received several grants from Arts Council England. in 2026 Robyn's Rocket received funding through the  supporting grassroots music fund. This will enable Robyn's Rocket to become a CIC ( Community Interest company)

do 4 gigs at Cafe OTO  2 gigs at Fabric

as well as carrying on outreach to help more venues/ promoters to improve their accessibility.

In addition The Royal Albert Hall Elgar room has commissioned a special Robyn's Rocket gig + Live stream on February 3rd 2026

❀️ Feedback

The feedback from people has been

⭐️People discover new artists

⭐️More people can come to gigs / see gigs

⭐️ The things put in place to help people with Learning Disabilities / Autistic people feel comfortable help other people too.

an example of this is the Rocket badge

up = Happy to talk to anyone

Sideways = just want to talk to people I know

Down = Please don't talk to me

πŸš€Fabric

Robyn wanted to do bigger gigs the profits of which will one day fund the smaller gigs at Cafe OTO, it also means she can programme more well known acts.

Fabric as a venue was the obvious choice as they have made a commitment to improving access to their venue and have great sound. Robyn reached out to them after having a positive experience seeing the band Snapped Ankles there

Fabric were immediately enthusiastic and have already invested a lot into access, for example;

with  their Body Kinetic Dance Floor ( so you can feel the music in your body, this is good for people who are D/deaf and hearing people alike. As well as working with organisation Deaf Rave, and doing Family friendly daytime events. Click here for more info on the dancefloor

They  have a lift, lit signage and have been working with Dance Floor intimacy to increase access. This kind of commitment is hugely important and meaningful.
