Aims of Robyn’s Rocket?

I think it’s important to explain that we are not trying to make a perfect accessible night because :

  • people can have conflicting needs meaning what works for one person wont work for someone else.

  • we don’t know what needs people will have at any particular event,

  • no venue or event is perfect for everyone,

  • there are Financial limits on what we can do.

we are trying to

  • Make gigs accessible and welcoming to as many people as possible,

  • Bring together people with and without Learning Disabilities and Autistic and Non Autistic people in a equitable way, as much as we can.

  • Platform artists with and without Learning Disabilities / Autistic and Non Autistic artists equitably .

The reason Robyn’s Rocket was started was in part because I ( Robyn Rocket) was going to gigs put on by organisations supporting artists with Learning Disabilities/ Autistic artists, I noticed the audiance was often people with Learning Disaffiliates/ Autistic people, which defiantly has a place , but it limits how many people, the artists performing can reach.

I was also noticing that I didn’t see my friends with Learning Disabilities/ Autistic people local to Deptford ( where Heart N Soul are based) at gigs put on by non disabled promoters locally .

I wanted to create a space where everyone could be together , I also think this helps to reduce stigma and misunderstanding of people with L:earning Disabilities / Autistic people, because people have first hand experience of spending time with people with Learning Disabilities/ Autistic people, without a power dynamic e.g carer / client and learn that we have lots in common.

We have feedback systems at our gigs so that people can say what works and what doesn’t , and if we can change something to make it better we will.

    However the smoking area is down some steps , however the entrance to Fabric is step free.

    the cloakroom is up 13 steps but there are lockers which are accessible step free.

  • Yes , Fabric has a cloakroom or secure lockers

  • Fabric is a nightclub and therefore has to comply with it’s Licence issued by Islington borough council, and the Licensing act 2003.

    This means that anyone entering the venue must be over 18 and be able to provide photo ID

  • yes we are producing social stories for the event itself.

  • Not exactly , we have only booked room 1 and the mezzanine ( quiet rooms are usually small rooms compared to the spaces available at fabric)

    however there will be a quieter area in room 1 at the opposite side of the room to the stage

    we also lend out ear Defenders ( and sun glasses) and can provide ear plugs,

    There is a sofa area on the Mezzanine level.

    we know that Busy gigs don’t work for everyone which is why we also stream our gigs ( the stream will be embedded on this webpage).
